I provide fun, engaging, supportive and personalised learning - taking each child from 'I can’t yet' to 'I can!'”

About Me
I graduated from Exeter University with a BA (Ed) in teaching. After exploring various careers in London in my 20s, I realised my true vocation was helping children, especially those who struggle with literacy. I later gained the additional Level 5 SpLD qualification for primary aged children.
I am a friendly, experienced, approachable teacher who builds warm rapport with her pupils and creates engaging, varied, multisensory and fun lessons. With over 20 years’ one-to-one teaching experience, tutoring is my dream job. I love those ‘light bulb’ moments when my pupils grasp new knowledge, gain confidence and rediscover the joy of learning.
How I teach children with SEND
My expertise, qualifications and SEND experience
I was a SENCO (Special Needs Coordinator) for 12 years and I have over 20 years experience teaching and supporting children with SEND at two London primary schools. I also have a Level 5 Certificate for Teachers of Learners with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) and I am a qualified and experienced primary school teacher. I have always taught one to one and in small groups and my passion is helping children to thrive, enjoy learning, gain knowledge, be more confident and overcome any difficulties.
In schools, I helped teachers ensure that the necessary support was in place for the children with SEND in their classrooms.
I teach children who are diagnosed with dyslexia or display traits of dyslexia / SpLD. I teach children who have gaps in their English language skills or require support in any area of primary learning.
How I teach students with dyslexia and/or difficulties with literacy
I include a range of activities and, where possible, I link activities to your child’s interests. I include elements of ‘errorless’ learning to boost self-esteem as well as ‘over-learning’ to help your child retain new knowledge and transfer it to their long-term memory. I specialise in remedial spelling, reading and writing. I also help children with their fine motor skills, in particular, cursive handwriting. Difficulties with literacy and learning gaps can limit children’s ability to access the whole curriculum so it is vital to provide support to help children overcome any barriers to their learning.
I specialise in helping children build confidence with phonemes, spelling patterns, and decoding skills for reading and spelling. I support them with initiating and completing tasks, understanding English texts, and answering comprehension questions in full sentences. I also guide them in planning and writing stories, fostering both skill and enjoyment in their work.
If your child has an Educational Psychologist’s report and you would be happy to share the information, I will incorporate the findings and suggested strategies. I support children with their phonological awareness, processing, auditory and visual memory. My lessons are personalised, structured, engaging and fun.
I create an atmosphere where each child feels at ease to happily ask questions. Through modelling, multisensory activities, clear explanations and engaging conversations, your child will gain increased confidence and understanding, both of which are vital for successful learning!
How I help students engage with learning and make lessons fun
Each lesson is personalised and supports the child’s areas of need. I incorporate engaging and enjoyable hands-on activities and use visual resources to reinforce their understanding. My adaptable approach ensures that lessons remain fun, effective and supportive. I include a range of activities and, where possible, I link activities to your child’s interests. My own curiosity and interest often inspires children to be more curious and each child happily progresses and gains confidence.
