Episode Highlights
This week on SEND Tutoring’s Podcast we interviewed Stephanie Ward, who having spent most of her adult life both physically disabled and living with previously undiagnosed ADHD, knows what it’s like to face inequality. Her parenting experience, supporting her autistic son, also showed her just how unsuitable the world and the systems within it can be, for those with neurodivergent conditions, physical disabilities, and communication challenges.
When she found herself in a position where she was able to resume work, she vowed never to let anyone suffer as she had.
Across her portfolio, she offers highly specialist job aides to neurodivergent and disabled entrepreneurs, business support services to both entrepreneurs and the not-for-profit sector, advocacy support services, and is also the driving force behind the Jack Ward Inclusion Initiative, a soon-to-be registered charity which will support, mentor, advise, and even fund, those with disabilities who have slipped through the net in other ways.
Stephanie has overcome insurmountable obstacles in her personal life, and often says ‘People like me don’t do what I’ve done’. Through sheer determination and a refusal to let anything else pull her back, she has built sturdy foundations through which she is able to deliver her life’s work – to improve the lives of those with disabilities.
We asked her these three questions and pretty much covered them all during the first one.
- When you were growing up at which point did you know that your neurodivergent brain set up apart from others?
- If you had to pick out the top three positives what would they be?
- How do feel about labeling?
She’s promised she’ll come back again.
