Bernadette was previously a director at Good Schools Guide, and so has a vast knowledge of schools.  She set up her own consultancy in 2019 so that she could focus solely on helping children with special needs.  Now with a decade of school searches under her belt, she has found places for thousands of children.

What is the process for finding the right school for a child with special needs?

Do you only liaise with the parents, or other professionals to find the right school?

What are the potential costs involved for parents?

On this week’s episode we chatted about the child getting a proper assessment before approaching any school.

Having a diagnosis of autism or ADHD or Dyslexia will only serve to help when finding the right school. In addition, having those formal diagnoses will be helpful in matching the child in the right setting.

Getting things like an educational psychologist’s report is really important so as to highlight the child’s strengths as well as what they find challenging.

Sadly, we didn’t have time to ask the last two questions but I’m sure Bernadette will come back on at some point in the future.
