Nurturing confidence, supporting regulation, and creating positive learning experiences to help children thrive at their own pace. ”

About Me
I am a dedicated and nurturing Special Educational Needs (SEN) teacher with 10 years of teaching experience and a passion for helping children reach their full potential. In 2016, I began my career in mainstream education before moving into SEN in 2023, where I have developed extensive experience supporting pupils with a wide range of needs.
Alongside teaching, I have worked as a private tutor since 2017, providing personalised support to help children achieve their EHCP outcomes, build confidence, and develop a positive attitude towards learning. I have experience working with children with autism, PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance), Down’s syndrome, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
I hold a Master’s degree in Education and am currently completing a Doctorate in Education. My approach is patient, supportive, and tailored to each child’s individual strengths, interests, and learning style, helping them make meaningful progress both academically and personally.
How I teach children with SEND
About me, my expertise, qualifications and SEND experience
I am a qualified teacher with 10 years of experience working with children across mainstream and specialist settings. Since moving into SEN education in 2023, I have developed extensive experience supporting children with autism, PDA, Down’s syndrome, ADHD and SEMH needs. I hold an MA in Education and am currently studying for a Doctorate in Education. Alongside teaching, I have worked as a tutor since 2017, supporting children to achieve their EHCP outcomes, build confidence and develop positive relationships with learning. Additionally, I am a qualified children’s yoga teacher and have a strong understanding of how stress, anxiety and emotional regulation can impact learning. As such, I use calming, child-centred approaches to help children to feel regulated, confident and ready to engage.
How I teach students with autism
Every child is unique, so I tailor my approach to each learner’s strengths, interests and needs. I use a flexible, child-centred approach that prioritises trust, emotional wellbeing and confidence. I understand that progress looks different for every child and celebrate all achievements, big and small. I use a Total Communication approach within my practice to support and embed visuals such as schedules, now and next boards, and sand timers to support pupil engagement.
How I teach Maths
When teaching Maths, I break learning into manageable steps and adapt lessons to suit each child’s learning style. I use practical activities, visual supports and engaging resources to make learning accessible and meaningful.
How I teach English
When teaching English, I ensure I use engaging texts or stories to capture the children’s attention and engagement. I often use PowerPoint presentations of the stories and add sounds and moving visuals to further engage the children. I ensure my approach remains calm, nurturing and supportive.
How I help students communicate
As a SEN teacher and tutor, I ensure that I create a safe and supportive environment where children feel listened to and valued. I use clear communication, visual supports where appropriate, and follow each child’s preferred communication style to help them express themselves confidently and communicate effectively.
How I help students engage with learning
I build lessons around children’s interests, strengths and motivations. By creating positive learning experiences and developing strong relationships, I help students feel confident, engaged and willing to take on new challenges.
How I make lessons fun
To ensure my sessions are enjoyable, I use games, movement, creativity and interactive activities to keep lessons engaging and memorable. As a qualified children’s yoga teacher, I also incorporate wellbeing and mindfulness strategies where beneficial.
How I help students with focus, attention and emotional regulation
I understand that learning and emotional wellbeing are closely connected. I use strategies to support regulation, attention and focus, including movement breaks, sensory supports, mindfulness techniques and structured routines. My calm and nurturing approach helps children feel safe, regulated and ready to learn.
