I offer tailored tutoring in Maths, English, PSHE, and functional skills, focusing on both academic and personal development. As a counsellor in training and trained Mindfulness teacher, I integrate emotional well-being, mindfulness, and therapeutic strategies into my approach.
My specialist experience is working with young people with SEN, ADHD, ASD, PDA, trauma, anxiety and challenging behaviours. I develop a nurturing and understanding rapport with my students, fostering confidence, resilience, and effective communication to help them thrive academically and personally.
How I teach children with SEND
About me, my expertise, qualifications, and SEND experience
With over 15 years of teaching experience and a decade supporting adults with learning disabilities, I bring a wealth of expertise and passion to my work. After achieving my PGCE with QTS, I taught in mainstream secondary schools, specialising in A-Level Psychology and providing support to SEN students in their BTEC courses. For eight years, I taught sixth form students at an NAS accredited SEN secondary school that achieved Outstanding Ofsted ratings for three consecutive years, where I honed my skills in creating inclusive, supportive learning environments tailored to individual needs. For the past two years, I have been tutoring privately, helping students achieve their academic and personal goals through a bespoke, therapeutic approach. Additionally, as a counsellor in training, I integrate my understanding of emotional well-being into my teaching to foster confidence and resilience in my students.
How I help students engage with learning, make lessons fun and help students with focus, attention, and emotional regulation
My specialist experience is working with young people with ADHD, ASD, PDA, trauma, anxiety and challenging behaviours. I develop a nurturing and understanding rapport with my students, integrating their special interests into lessons to enhance engagement and self-esteem.
With my academic background in psychology & neuroscience, qualification as a Mindfulness practitioner and Level 2 & Level 3 qualifications in Integrative Counselling skills, I incorporate my knowledge of mindfulness, neuroscience, and psychology to help students understand and regulate their emotions. I create a calm, supportive environment where learning flourishes.
My approach is warm, non-judgmental, and therapeutic, with predictable and consistent lesson routines. I build my students’ confidence by creating a supportive, non-judgemental space where every achievement is celebrated. I set manageable, personalised goals and use mindfulness techniques to help them overcome self-doubt, gradually empowering them to take on new challenges.
This holistic method creates a balanced and supportive learning environment where students are empowered to thrive both academically and personally. I offer support with Maths & English (KS2 , KS3 & KS4 and Functional Skills), PSHE, and ancillary subjects that focus on students’ well-being, interests, and functional skills.
How I teach Maths & English
I approach Maths and English with a personalised, holistic and differentiated method that caters to each student’s unique needs and abilities. In Maths, I simplify complex concepts by breaking them into manageable steps, using real-life examples and interactive techniques to build both confidence and understanding. My aim is to demystify challenging topics and help students’ link theory to real life and relatable scenarios. In English, I encourage active engagement through creative reading, writing, and discussion exercises, connecting language and literature to students’ interests and experiences.
