"Behind every successful student is a tutor who refused to let them quit on themselves."”

About Me
My teaching philosophy is built on the conviction that every student must first feel genuinely heard, validated and valued as an individual before any meaningful learning can take part. I combine my NASENCo-qualified expertise with deep empathy to “regulate before I educate,” creating a safe, low-stress environment where a child’s emotional needs are met through active listening and emotion coaching. By dismantling the anxiety and frustration that so often accompany SEND barriers, I unlock their capacity to learn. I then tailor the curriculum into highly scaffolded, multi-sensory and interest-led steps, ensuring that every tutoring session not only targets explicit EHCP goals (if applicable) but delivers frequent, empowering breakthroughs that rebuild a child’s confidence and sense of personal achievement.
How I teach children with SEND
I am a highly qualified educator with 11 years of experience in primary education and nearly two years as a secondary SEND Unit Lead, giving me a deep understanding of the curriculum across all key stages. I hold the NASENCo qualification (completed in 2025) and a Level 3 Safeguarding qualification, meaning my practice is rooted in the latest SEND research, the SEND Code of Practice, and the Equality Act. Throughout my career in state, independent, and faith-based schools, I have expertise in supporting pupils with diverse neurodivergent profiles and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs from Reception up to Key Stage 3. I work closely with multidisciplinary professionals like SALTs, OTs, and Educational Psychologists, allowing me to seamlessly translate complex EHCP requirements into highly effective, personalised tutoring plans.
My core philosophy is built on the conviction that every student must first feel genuinely heard, validated and valued as an individual before any meaningful learning can take place. I lead with a kind, caring and completely calm energy, focusing on building a deep bond of trust to ease any hidden anxiety or school-related frustration your child might carry. I use a “human-first” approach to lower their cognitive walls, building up their self-esteem so their natural confidence can thrive. I never use a “one-size-fits-all” method; instead, everything is clearly and patiently modelled step-by-step, breaking down complex tasks into tiny, achievable chunks so your child always feels capable and supported.
I specialise in accelerating progress in functional Literacy and Maths by adapting the core curriculum to your child’s exact learning pace and developmental level. Rather than relying on rigid worksheets that can cause task avoidance, I break down curriculum concepts into accessible, hands-on tasks that mirror what they need to know for school while matching their specific EHCP targets. I use immediate, encouraging feedback loops so that errors are gently corrected on the spot, ensuring your child experiences a high frequency of academic breakthroughs that reshape their relationship with these core subjects.
Drawing on my extensive experience working alongside Speech and Language Therapists (SALT) and leading Restorative Practice, I create a communication-rich environment tailored to your child’s needs. I use visual aids, dual-coding (pairing spoken words with pictures) and clear checklists to make instructions easy to process. Beyond academic communication, I actively teach children how to express their feelings safely through emotion coaching. I give students the space, time and vocabulary to articulate when they are feeling stuck or overwhelmed, ensuring they always feel heard and respected.
I love finding out what truly makes your child tick so I can weave their unique personal interests directly into our sessions, turning learning from a chore into a meaningful experience. I meet them exactly where they are, utilising an interest-led curriculum design to hook their attention. Whether your child is highly analytical or beautifully creative, I design the flow of the session to ensure they feel motivated to tackle new, harder challenges with enthusiasm.
I reject traditional, dry teaching methods in favour of highly interactive, dynamic and multi-sensory learning. Depending on what your child loves, our academic sessions might involve hands-on clay art projects, practical cookery concepts, or interactive learning games. I am also highly skilled in integrating technology into the curriculum to allow students to be creative and engaged in their learning. I ensure that learning is an active, memorable journey that ends with a genuine sense of personal achievement.
With my background as an Education Mental Health Practitioner, I firmly believe in the rule to “regulate before I educate.” I know that an anxious or dysregulated mind cannot absorb information, so I proactively structure my sessions to protect your child’s nervous system. I integrate specialised, evidence-based strategies directly into our time together; including daily wellbeing check-ins, sensory fidget tools, and non-negotiable, structured “brain breaks.” If your child becomes overwhelmed, I utilise gentle de-escalation techniques, calming spaces, and “walk and talk” intervals to help them safely process their emotions, reset their focus and leave the session with a smile.
