On today’s episode we welcomed Fraser Annis Founder of Anniseeds Limited a SEN recruitment company designed to get young people into work after school or college.

We asked Fraser these three questions:

What do you think SEN students need to learn in school to make it in the real world?

Fraser answered that respect is number one and understanding why certain decisions happen even if they don’t understand the background. Young people need to value their life and see that the world has their back, to understand how the mechanics of life works which is integral to changing the landscape of acceptance.

The second question was – What do you make of the recruitment process and its accessibility for those with SEN?

Fraser answered that it was completely outdated and employers and schools need to change this and bring SEN young people into work. They ask and we can deliver was Fraser’s response. Anniseeds Limited supports this directly, all employment that SEN young people want to go into should be supported. Whatever they’re interested in there should be no barrier to their interests. Anniseeds Limited are building links with other industries in order for young people to have a choice of what kind of work they’re looking for.

Question 3 asked – What do you think needs to be done to make the lives of SEN and their families easier?

Fraser answered that it should be less of a fight with Local Authorities for parents. The LA’s need to be put themselves in the position of the families, the main bud of sympathy needs to be for the young person but also for the family. LA’s and the government needs to listen to what the communities are saying. Open discussions between LA’s and families need to happen and the families need to be privy to the decisions that suit their needs.
