Would a 'Now' and 'Next' board help all children learn routines or is it just for SEND children?
A 'Now' and "Next' board is a visual way of helping children understand what is going to happen during their day. As the name suggests, the board involves showing what is happening 'now' and what will happen 'next'. Teaching resource websites like Twinkl have templates for many visual resources, but it is just as easy to create your own. All you need is a piece of paper or card (A4 is ideal and if you can laminate it, it will last longer!) Divide into 2 and write or print 'Now' on one side and 'Next' on the other. Print and laminate either photos or clip art for each activity you want to include, e.g. snack, break, writing, maths, etc then use velcro to attach them to the board. Once your child has learned and understood the process of attaching the pictures then removing them when a task is finished, they will eventually want to do it themselves 🙂
